Did Twitter Censor Famous Scientist for Opposing Childhood Transgenderism?

The transgender rights movement is having a moment. Transgender celebrities are popping up on TV shows and magazine covers, even as cell phone videos of violence against trans people continue to pop up in Facebook feeds. Meanwhile, Facebook itself now allows users to choose from dozens of genders for their profiles. People do. Social change is always bewildering to the status quo, but this new era of gender fluidity may have sown a bit more confusion than usual. The stakes remain highest for transgender people themselves. Consider the challenges and decisions facing children with gender dysphoria—the DSM-5 designation for the anxiety individuals feel when their gender identity is at odds with their biological sex—and their parents.

Brain activity and structure in transgender adolescents more closely resembles the typical activation patterns of their desired gender, according to findings to be presented in Barcelona, at the European Society of Endocrinology annual meeting, ECE These findings suggest that differences in brain function may occur early in development and that brain imaging may be a useful tool for earlier identification of transgenderism in young people.

Transgenderism is the experience, or identification with, a gender different to the assigned biological sex, whilst gender dysphoria GD is the distress experienced by transgender people, and may be present from a very young age. Although GD incidence is rare, gender identity is an essential part of psychological health, and if unaddressed can lead to serious psychological issues. Current strategies for addressing GD in younger people involve psychotherapy, or delaying puberty with hormones, so that decisions on transgender therapy can be made at an older age.

Genetics and hormones contribute to sex differences in brain development and function that lead to more male- or female-typical characteristics; however, these processes are not well established.

The directive said that schools must allow transgender students to use the bathroom and locker room that match their gender identity. A confusing issue on a personal level became even more confusing as it developed into a public policy issue. The emergence of public scrutiny over gender raises questions in the minds of many Christians: Why would someone identify as transgender?

James N. The following is adapted from the second of two lectures—the Fifth Annual B. Allow me to introduce my topic by way of three short stories. First, the story of Bill—or rather a bill, namely, House Bill 2. On February 22, , the Charlotte City Council passed by a vote Ordinance , the stated purpose of which was to prohibit discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation or gender identity in public accommodations, include public bathrooms.

This provoked a vigorous debate because the ordinance would have given a biological male who claims to have a female gender identity the legal right to use a public bathroom designated for women and contrariwise for a biological female who claims to be male. HB2 ignited a firestorm of debate across the nation. It was widely and vehemently criticized for discriminating against transgender people and thereby violating their civil rights.

Prominent celebrities, businesses, and sports associations vowed to cancel events and withdraw investment from North Carolina because of HB2. In addition, the U.

As a clinician in the mental health field with occassional gender variant clients I was looking for a concise up to date book with a nonpathologizing supportive point of view.

By contrast, transgenderism is a belief system that increasingly looks like a for a $ million study of transgender minors, the largest to date.

This article is about the argument raised against trans people that we are deceiving others by acting like a gender different than our sex. For the matter of whether it is possible for sex to change, read Sex Cannot Change. Often the argument is brought up against transpeople that they are deceiving others by presenting a gender different from their assigned gender.

First, let me point out yet again that this only applies to some trans people. People have no difficulty deducing I have and have always had a male body except for one person who assumed I was a transman born female. Drag queens and drag kings and mock the gender binary and many genderqueer people who publicly criticize it do not feel the need to pass as one gender or the other.

This is not out of concern about deception but because we the gender binary doesn’t rule out lives and the more our lives contradict the binary, the less influence it has. The matter of passing and going “stealth” is debated with the trans community. On one hand, going stealth contributes to our invisibility and persecution. An openly trans person, however, gives trans people a good name by showing our family and friends that trans people are healthy, well-adjusted people too and that fears are unwarranted.

On the other hand, because of the prejudice against transpeople, a person in stealth has a better shot at getting a job, making friends, getting a date, and taking advantage of cisgender privilege. Each year, sometimes dozens and sometimes hundreds of people are murdered just because a cisgender person feels threatened by their gender variance.

It is not a survey of transpeople, trans experience, or trans politics so much as an account of the spaces between that have opened up as old classification systems give way to new and as gender norms, bodily practices, and desires are reconfigured within new matrices of meaning, politics, violence, and fleshly becomings.

Transvestites and transsexuals are, these days, de rigueur. The recent Levis television advert featuring Zaldy, a black drag queen, being ogled by a New York cabbie until his fare pulls out an electric shaver, caused hardly a stir. Neither did Jonathan Ross’s recent foray into frocks when he appeared in a bright pink skirt for the preview of Interview with the Vampire.

The notion that some people have a sex their physical body that contradicts their gender their socially assigned characteristics is now almost a given in our society. But a third group is emerging from the sexual wilderness that defies current categories of gender identity. Known as transgenderists, these are biologically normal men and women – rather than hermaphrodites or those with an intersex condition – who choose to live as the third sex.

It was announced Initiative , which sought to reverse the laws in this state that allow a transgender individual to use restrooms and other facilities based on their gender identity did not receive enough signatures to get placed on the November ballot. I was looking forward to it being on the ballot, mostly because the vote would settle the issue, and I was confident the initiative would not pass. There was one point that was consistently touched on during these discussions: the general public lacks the information and connections necessary to understand trans issues.

So while I did not receive enough signatures to get placed on the November ballot, there is still an information gap surrounding transgender issues that I would like to help fill.

A dated and potentially offensive term for a person who has emotional and/or sexual attraction to people of the same Transgenderism. This term should not be.

The Church has a different take, one that is grounded in genuinely confirmed reality. One is born either or male or female, and this also applies to hermaphrodites who, though they manifest both male and female anatomical aspects at birth, are either biological boys or girls. In this light, the Church recognizes that every human person is created in the image and likeness of God, male or female Gen.

And so we should help people discover their true identities as children of God, not support them in the disordered attempt to reject their undeniable biological identity. In this light, we should act in love toward those who experience gender identity disorder, and reprove those who engage in name-calling and other uncharitable behavior toward them. Regarding preferred pronouns, I would advise avoiding that problem and just call the person by their preferred name.

Let me give an example.
